Open University

1. Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Primary Education

The goal of this programme is to improve the quality of early childhood education and primary education in Sri Lanka. The specific objective of the programme is to enable the participants to perform effectively as teachers / care givers in Early Childhood Education and Primary Education.

Qualifications:

·        Applicant should be 18 years or over on the closing date of applications, and

·        Successfully completed the Advanced Certificate in Pre-School Education Programme conducted by the Open University of Sri Lanka, or

·        At least 03 passes at the GCE (A/L) Examination and 06 passes in G.C.E (O/L) Examination with Language and Mathematics, or

·        Minimum of 54 credits in courses offered at any foundation Levels 1 and 2 (offered by OUSL), or

·        Diploma in Teaching offered by the National Colleges of Education, or

·        Teacher Training Certificate awarded by the Teacher Training Colleges.

·        Applicants who wish to follow the Programme in English medium should possess at least a Credit pass (before 2001) or “B” pass (from 2001) for English Language in the GCE (Ordinary Level) Examination).

• Minimum 02 years

2. Diploma in Information Systems and Technology

It is your passport to a highly lucrative career in the IT field. The programme is designed in a way that a student who successfully completes the Diploma can find a placement immediately in the IT industry and earn a Bachelor of Software Engineering Degree (confirming to IEEE/ACM curriculum guidelines) while being employed.

3. Diploma in Tourism Operations

It has been designed to introduce the multi disciplinary nature of the tourism industry and the links it has with the various sub sectors. The Diploma will benefit the school leavers, employment seekers and those already employed in the Tourism, Travel and Hotel Industry.

Qualifications:

·        Three passes in any stream at the General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) Examination, Sri Lanka, or,

·        Six passes at the General Certificate of Education (Ordinary Level) Examination, Sri Lanka and five years of certified work experience in the relevant field, or,

·        Six passes at the General Certificate of Education (Ordinary Level) Examination, Sri Lanka and successfully completed the Short Course in Tourism and Hotel Operations of the Open University of Sri Lanka, with three years of certified work experience in the relevant field, or,

·        Successful completion of any SLQF Level 2 programme with minimum 30 (thirty) credits offered by a Higher Educational Institution acceptable by the Senate, or,

·        Successful completion of National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 4 in Tourism and Hospitality field, or.

·        an equivalent or higher qualification acceptable to the Senate.

4. Bachelor of Software Engineering Honours

This programme explores the design, construction and implementation of large, complex software systems, which meet information processing challenges, subject to constraints such as cost, time and risk management. For those who aspire to become software architects, software engineers, system analysts, and QA engineers this programme would be of immense value.

Qualifications:

·        Passes for any Three GCE A/L subjects (excluding General IT (GIT) and General English) in any number of sittings OR

·        Completed any Advanced Certificate Program offered by the OUSL   OR

·        C passes in any three subjects in Cambridge/Edexcel Advanced Level Examination OR

·        Any other equivalent or higher qualifications acceptable to the Senate and

·        Pass the Selection Test

5. Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences

BA in Social Sciences is a multi-disciplinary study programme starting at Level 3. it offers you the opportunity to obtain a multi-disciplinary social science training while selecting a stream in which you can obtain a special orientation. Students who register for the programme can choose from the following 4 streams. Economics and Development Studies, Communication Studies, Politics and International Relations, Society and Culture Studies.

Qualifications:

·        A minimum of three passes at the General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) examination in any stream, or

·        A minimum of 30 credits at SLQF Level 2 or above from any programme offered by a Higher Education Institution approved by the Senate of the Open University of Sri Lanka, or

·        Qualification or accredited work experience equivalent to NVQF Level 4 or

·        An equivalent or higher qualification acceptable to the Senate.

1. Higher National Diploma in English (HND in English)

The Higher National Diploma in English course provides an opportunity for School leavers with GCE A’ Level qualifications to improve their expertise in English Language, English Literature and Communication skills.

1. National Diploma in Food Technology

This course includes subjects related to Accounting, Costing, Auditing, Taxation Management and other related subjects.

Qualifications:

·        Should have obtained NVQ 3 qualification in relevant field.or

·        G.C.E.(A/L) Examination in Three (3) Subjects with passes in one (1) of bellow Stream: Bio Technology, Science, Agree Science Or

·        Should have passed three (03) subjects at G.C.E. (A/L) Arts stream with a credit pass for Food Technology or Agro Technology under Soft Technology. Or

·        Should have obtained NVQ 3/4 qualification for relevant field

·        Preference will be given to those followed G. C. E. (A/L) in mathematics stream/ Engineering technology stream)

·        Age should be between 17 and 29 years as at closing Date
