"The Open University of Sri
Lanka" (OUSL) is a national university in Sri Lanka. It is unique within
the Sri Lankan national university system for being the only university to
offer programs of study leading to certificates, diplomas, degrees, and
postgraduate degrees up to PhD level through the Open and Distance Mode of
Learning (ODL). The degrees awarded by the university are treated as
equivalent to degrees awarded by any other Sri Lankan University under the
preview of the University Grants Commission.
Ø Quantity Surveying:
o Quantity Surveying course teaches you to quantify construction work in a structured way using a standard method of measurement and industry terminology.
o Requirements: " Advance level passes in physics, chemistry and combined mathematics in one sitting or completed foundation courses equivalent to the subjects listed above offered by OUSL or an equivalent or higher qualification acceptable to the University"
o Duration: 4 Years
Ø Engineering:
o Engineering is about
designing processes and making products to solve real-world problems. Part I (Years 1 and 2) provides a broad education in engineering
fundamentals, enabling you to make a genuinely informed choice about the area
in which to specialize from your third year (many students change direction as
a result). Part II (Years 3 and 4) then provides in-depth training in your
chosen professional discipline.
o Requirements: " Advance level passes in
physics, chemistry and combined mathematics in one sitting or completed
foundation courses equivalent to the subjects listed above offered by OUSL or
an equivalent or higher qualification acceptable to the University"
o Duration: 4 Years
Ø Software Engineering:
o This course presents modern software engineering techniques and examines the software life cycle, including software specification, design, implementation,
testing and maintenance. The course evaluates past and current
trends in software development practices including agile software development
methods such as Extreme Programming (XP), Agile Modeling (AM), Scrum, ASD,
DSDM, Crystal, Feature Driven Development (FDD), Incremental Funding Method
(IFM), DevOps, and Site Reliability Engineering.
o
Requirements:
"Advance level 3 passes in any stream
except General English and General IT in one sitting or Passed in any 3
subjects in any foundation programme of the OUSL or passes in any three
subjects in Cambridge/Edexcel including passing the selection test"
o
Duration: 4 Years
2. Technical Colleges
o A Technical College in Sri Lanka is a vocational
education and training centre. Administered by the Department of Technical
Education and Training, there are 33 Colleges of Technology and Technical
Colleges island-wide.

NVQ 4/5
Information & Communication Technology
Technician (ICTT) NVQ Level 4 is a full-time course offered by TVEC-approved
Government Technical Colleges and Vocational Training Centers.

3. Higher National Diploma in Engineering (HNDE)

Higher National Diploma in Engineering
(HNDE) is a public institute in Sri Lanka mainly focused on higher education.
Since 1986 the Higher National Diploma in Engineering (HNDE) program has been
the pioneer in producing incorporated engineers for the local and international
industry. The demand in the industry for HNDE students and the knowledge to
work with internationally recognized modern equipment shows the quality and the

· Ocean University of Sri Lanka was established in 2014 by an act passed by the Parliament of Sri Lanka. It was earlier called the National Institute of Fisheries and Nautical Engineering.
