The stream is commonly known as Bio stream, and it consists of four subjects. Candidates do have option of selecting physics or Agricultural science, while biology and chemistry are mandatory. Since some of the prominent jobs such as doctors and health care job opportunities can be obtained through this stream, it has become a famous and competitive stream in advanced level. There are many Government and Semi-Government higher education opportunities available in Sri Lanka for Bio stream students. Further the private institutions also offer courses related to the healthcare sector such as pharmacist course and nursing.
State University Opportunities After ALs
There are
27 courses specifically provided for the Biological Science stream students by
the government universities of Sri Lanka. Furthermore, there are some common
courses also which can be followed by the Bio students.
1. Medicine/Dental Surgery/Veterinary Science
Medicine is the most
prominent course under this stream. You can be a government approved medical
doctor after successfully finishing the course. Further the Dental surgery and
veterinary courses are following the medicine course in general order of
district quota. Commonly the duration of the course is 5 years. Even though the
minimum eligibility is 3 simple passes in the n Chemistry, Physics and Biology sometimes
the students who get 3 ‘A’ s might not get the chance to get into universities.

in the University of Kelaniya. The total duration of the course is 6 years and
there will be 5 academic years and 1 year of internship. The course is only
conducted through Sinhala medium since the subjects are related to traditions

follow this nursing degree

of study in Nursing.
In addition, the candidates should be a minimum of 4’10" in height
and should not have any kind of deformity. Candidates who fail to satisfy these
physical conditions will not be considered for the course of study in Nursing.
These two requirements are given as mandatory requirements in the
Nursing Minute of the Nursing Council.
If you get selected for the course of study in Nursing, based on false /
inaccurate information provided in the application, your admission for the
course of study in Nursing will be cancelled

Pharmacy
Pharmacy course also another good course which a 120-credit curriculum
like nursing course leading to a degree of the B.Sc. in Pharmacy. You should
need At least a ‘C’ grade in Chemistry and ‘S’ grades in Physics & Biology
at the G.C.E. (Advanced Level) Examination.
In addition to that, at least a ‘S’ pass in English at the G.C.E.
